May you have a world of wishes at your command God and His angels close at hand Friends and family their love impart And an Irish blessing in your heart May God grant you many years to live For sure He must be knowing The Earth has angels all too few And Heaven's overflowing These things I warmly wish to you Someone to love and some work to do A bit of sun and a bit of cheer And a guardian angel also near Here's to a long life and a merry one A pretty girl and an honest one A cold beer and another one Sure there's many good reasons for drinking And one has just entered my head If you can't drink when you're living How the hell can you drink when you're dead?
The Irish are a handsome race, And very smart as well. Big and strong and full of wit, With yarns and tales to tell. Now God, he had a problem, You see it really wasn't fair, That the Irish should be doubly blessed, While others missed their share. So God invented whiskey, For the Irish boys and girls. To keep us on our island, So we wouldn't rule the world. The Irish took to whiskey, In jars and iron pots. And being generous by nature, They shared it with the Scots. The Scots, well they refined it, And enjoyed it to the hilt. And when they've drank enough of it, They face south and raise their kilts.
