Christmas Messages

Too stingy to buy an airmail stamp

But not sending a greeting’s impolite

So, writing a ditty to two special friends

Seems to me to be right

So, herewith, is that said greeting

To two special folk I hold dear

And all the VERY BEST in the NEW YEAR

Now, I know dear and year don’t rhyme

Despite their similar spelling

And saying things in capitals

Is enthusiasm…not yelling

Enough already,

My deed here is done

May your Christmas be very merry

And (Twenty Nineteen) a bundle of fun

Christmas Messages

You will of course already know
What you two mean to me
So it’s no surprise that my wish for you
Is a Christmas full of glee

May you also have a Boxing Day
That’s as happy as can be
And may you spend your New Years Day

Completely vomit free

It’s very close to Yuletide
So I really must now send it
In judging it, please bear in mind
I was squiffy when I penned it

I’ve said “I” instead of “we”
Which (Marg) thought was a pity
But then she said “Just leave me out
Coz it’s a pretty shitty ditty”

However, she wants me to say from her..and me
“Have a Wonderful Christmas and all the very best in 20XX”

This message from here to you overseas
Takes but a second or two
To wish MC and HNY
To the two of you

Sending it thro' the ether
Beats a journey by air or sea
It's the modern sophisticated way
That just happens to be free

But thinking that sort of thing
Just isn't what you'd do
While, like me, quietly acknowledging
That it just happens to be true

We got yours by mail, much thanks for that
You used the expensive way
But you should have put the dosh towards
Airline tickets to the United K !

Have a good 'un and all the best in 20XX

More Christmas Messages

Once again 'tis the festive season
This Christmas message is borne of reason
For the World pays a massive price
Forcing upon me this sacrifice
I’d dearly love to send a card
And not doing so, is very hard
But the waste of valuable World resources
Worries me and persuades, nay, forces
This Draconian measure against my wishes
Do I sense you’re a tad suspicious?
That I’m just being insincere
Claiming this as a planet-saving idea
That saying MC and HNY
This way, is just me being sly
And of course all of this is very true
And just shows how much I admire you
But the real blame for this bad rhyming
Is my (Mother’s) very, inconvenient timing*

MC and HNY to you and yours

* she died this month
