There are little eyes upon you,
And they are watching night and day;
There are little ears that quickly
Take in every word you say.

There are little hands all eager
To do everything you do;
And a little boy (girl) who's dreaming
Of the day he'll (she'll) be like you.

You're the little fellow's (lady's) idol;
You're the wisest of the wise;
In his (her) little mind, about you
No suspicions ever rise.

He (She) believes in you devotedly,
Holds that all you say and do,
He (She) will say and do in your way
When he's (she's) grown up like you.

There's a wide eyed little fellow (lady)
Who believes you're always right;
And his (her) ears are always open,
And he (she) watches day and night.

You are setting an example
Every day in all you do;
For the little boy (girl) who's waiting
To become just like you

Welcome to Naming Ceremony Poems which brings you poems for a baby naming ceremony offering best wishes on the occasion. Baby naming day ceremonies are relatively new and the ceremony itself uses poems and readings which are usually provided / suggested by the celebrant / registrar Provided here are naming day poems / verses to be used on a Baby Naming Day greetings card or scrapbook

Someday you'll jump through puddles,
Take a stroll or run a race.
Someday you'll walk across the street
Or maybe walk in space.
Someday you'll scale a mountain
Or join the ballet corps.
Someday you'll walk a tightrope
Or explore the ocean floor.
Someday your feet will do some things
That only heaven knows
But for today they're happy, simply
Just to wiggle little toes

Naming Ceremony Poems

Here's a poem written from the baby's point of view

I didn’t expect a brass ban,
With welcome mat unfurled,
To be on hand when I arrived,
In this confusing world.

Nor did I expect a doctor,
To hold me by the feet,
Then quickly turn me upside down,
And spank me on my seat.

At first I wasn’t quite prepared,
For this enormous place,
Nor for the funny characters,
That I would have to face.

But I've soon learned to get my way,
By looking sweet and shy,
And when I want to be held,
To make a fuss, and cry.

I’ve found it really doesn’t take,
Much effort or much guile,
To wrap them round my finger,
All I need to do is smile.

Today, I'll try to do my best
To be as good as gold
And if I fail, forgive me
I'm a mere (3) months old

(optional extra)

Later, we'll adjourn to the pub
And here's what I think
It's my gig, so is it fair
I can't join you in a drink?

Naming Ceremony Poems

This is a traditional Irish poem suitable for a naming ceremony. Following this is a Bob Dylan song which was clearly inspired by this poem and indeed below is a song composed by Rod Stewart, influenced by both

May the road rise to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
The rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of his hand.

May God be with you and bless you;
May you see your children's children.
May you be poor in misfortune,
Rich in blessings,
May you know nothing but happiness
From this day forward.

May the road rise to meet you
May the wind be always at your back
May the warm rays of sun fall upon your home
And may the hand of a friend always be near.

May green be the grass you walk on,
May blue be the skies above you,
May pure be the joys that surround you,
May true be the hearts that love you.

Here, next, is that Bob Dylan composed song, mentioned above, that is very suitably worded for a naming ceremony

May God bless and keep you always,
May your wishes all come true,
May you always do for others
And let others do for you.
May you build a ladder to the stars
And climb on every rung,
May you stay forever young,
Forever young, forever young,
May you stay forever young.

May you grow up to be righteous,
May you grow up to be true,
May you always know the truth
And see the lights surrounding you.
May you always be courageous,
Stand upright and be strong,
May you stay forever young,
Forever young, forever young,
May you stay forever young.

May your hands always be busy,
May your feet always be swift,
May you have a strong foundation
When the winds of changes shift.
May your heart always be joyful,
May your song always be sung,
May you stay forever young,
Forever young, forever young,
May you stay forever young.

Bob Dylan

But see different lyrics by Rod Stewart. This, or the one below, could be used as a poem or the song could be played during the ceremony

More Naming Ceremony Poems

Here's another poem using the "may this, may that" format

May the strength of the wind and the light of the sun,
The softness of the rain and the mystery of the moon
Reach you and fill you.
May beauty delight you and happiness uplift you,
May wonder fulfil you and love surround you.
May your step be steady and your arm be strong,
May your heart be peaceful and your word be true.
May you seek to learn, may you learn to live,
May you live to love, and may you love - always.

On your baby naming day
May all your wishes come true
May baby (James) enjoy his day
And may all be perfect for you

Naming Ceremony Poems

A baby will make love stronger
Days shorter,
Nights longer,
Bankroll smaller,
Clothes shabbier,
The past forgotten,
And the future worth living for.

Naming Ceremony Poems

Today we will give you
Your name that will show
How much we cherish you
As you grow

It will reflect this love
We have for you
As through life's paths
You wander through

(Sophie) is our choice
It suits you well
And we hope that it will
Help you excel

Naming Ceremony Poems

Here's Rod Stewart's Version of Forever Young with different lyrics

May the good Lord be with you
Down every road you roam
And may sunshine and happiness
surround you when you're far from home
And may you grow to be proud
Dignified and true
And do unto others
As you'd have done to you
Be courageous and be brave
And in my heart you'll always stay
Forever Young, Forever Young
Forever Young, Forever Young

May good fortune be with you
May your guiding light be strong
Build a stairway to heaven
with a prince or a vagabond

And may you never love in vain
and in my heart you will remain
Forever Young, Forever Young
Forever Young, Forever Young
Forever Young
Forever Young

And when you finally fly away
I'll be hoping that I served you well
For all the wisdom of a lifetime
No one can ever tell

But whatever road you choose
I'm right behind you, win or lose
Forever Young, Forever Young
Forever Young ,Forever Young
Forever Young, Forever Young
For, Forever Young, Forever Young

Naming Ceremony Poems

If I was going to have a Naming Ceremony I would use these lyrics and play this song

See also this version with Rod and his daughter

I want you to be happy.
I want you to fill your heart with feelings of wonder
And to be full of courage and hope.

I want you to have the type of friendship that is a treasure
And the kind of love that is beautiful forever.
I wish you contentment: the sweet, quiet, inner kind
That comes around and never goes away.

I want you to have hopes and have them all come true.
I want you to have a real understanding
Of how unique and rare you truly are.

I want to remind you that the sun may disappear for a while,
But it never forgets to shine.
May the words you listen to, say the things you need to hear.
And may a cheerful face lovingly look back at you
When you happen to glance in your mirror.

I wish you the insight to see your inner and outer beauty.
I wish you sweet dreams.
I want you to have times when you feel like singing
And dancing and laughing out loud.

I want you to be able to make your good times better
And your hard times easier to handle.
I wish I could find a way to tell you - in untold ways -
How important you are to me.

Of all the things I’ll be wishing for,
Wherever you are and whatever you may do,
There will never be a day in my life
When I won’t be wishing the best, for you.
