New Year Poems
by David
(Somerset, UK)
A brand new year
A clean slate on which to write
our hopes and dreams.
This year:
Less time and energy on things;
More time and energy on people.
All of life?s best rewards,
deepest and finest feelings,
greatest satisfactions,
Come from people
People like you.
Happy New Year
** New Year Poems **
Let us all gather round and cheer,
With a drink of wine or an ice cold beer
Perhaps you're like me and don't drink the swill,
Or you're like my grandparents who live on pills.
Maybe this world seems harsh at times,
Or it's just that most of us just like to whine.
I'd say that this is a great place to be,
It all depends on how we can see.
True we've had bad things in the past,
But we know in our hearts that these will not last.
If we try our best to be simple and pure,
There's nothing our hopes and dreams cannot cure.
So, I don't know the value this is worth,
But lets all try to be happy and heal Mother Earth
Happy New Year
** New Year Poems **
How beautiful the turning of the year!
A moment artificial yet profound:
Point upon an arbitrary chart
Passing like a breath upon the heart,
Yearning with anticipation wound,
New hope new dreams in old-fashioned cheer.
Even when the boundary line is clear,
We recognize the oneness of the ground.
Years, like circles, do not end or start
Except we lay across their truth our art,
Adjusting dates as they go round and round
Revolving to a tune long sung and dear.
**
T'was the day before New Years with only minutes to go.
Everyone was waiting for the new year to show.
There were party hats, noise makers, and lots of Champagne.
Good food and good music no one could complain.
When suddenly the ball began to drop.
Everyone in the room came to a stop.
When the ball reached the bottom the crowd began to roar.
And confetti dropped from ceiling to floor.
Happy New Year! Happy New Year was all you could hear.
2009 was finally here.
Here's hoping your new year will be festive and live.
And may the fun continue until 2009
